SARA'S STORY    The Walk

Sara passed away peacefully on September 30, 2009.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam and his family.

October 2004, Sara Bryant had just gotten engaged. They had purchased a new home; life was beautiful for Sara and her fiancée, Adam Smith. They were young, happy and healthy. Ten days later, Sara, a self-proclaimed poster child for good health and fitness,  was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sara now sees herself as a prime example of how randomly the disease strikes. The stage 2B diagnosis indicated that there was not only a lump, but that it had spread into her lymph nodes. After learning that she would need to undergo chemotherapy, Sara decided to take control. She cut her shoulder length hair very short and tried to look at the impending baldness as a "good thing"; "it's just one of the steps that needs to be taken in order for me to get better," said Sara. After three surgeries, 16 weeks of chemotherapy, and several weeks of preventative medicine, Sara went into remission. Her hair grew back, and Adam and Sara had a lovely wedding on the Cape; all seemed wonderful again. However, two years into her battle against this horrible disease, Sara suffered a setback when a brain tumor was discovered. Immediate surgery and aggressive radiation therapy, Cyber Knife,  was the course of action. As many patients and survivors know all to well, often the aggressive treatments are as difficult to conquer as the disease itself. Sara lost her fight on September 30, 2009. She will be missed.
